Ealing, London: Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery is excited to announce simultaneous exhibitions by British artists Permindar Kaur and Prem Sahib, taking place across the entirety of the galleries, historic manor, and into the gardens of Sir John Soane’s former Ealing home. The experience of architecture is central to the art practices of both Kaur and Sahib, and each of these exhibitions will form a conversation with the historic manor and interiors at Pitzhanger. Soane was a master at casting and recasting materials, deploying trompe l’oeil to suggest one thing is another. Both exhibitions embrace this legacy and speak to similar themes of doubles, reflections, (a)symmetry, and pairing to recast how we experience the historic rooms.
Through their sculpture, the artists suggest feelings of the uncanny, an eerie sense of both the familiar and the strange. Whilst Kaur speaks especially to childhood, Sahib draws on his family’s connection to Ealing and Southall as well as evoking sites of queer encounters.
