Exhibition Information/Press Release: Curated by Daniel Birnbaum and Jacqui Davies and produced by OGR Torino with SMAC Venice (San Marco Art Centre), the exhibition examines the paradoxes of space and time through the work of some of the most significant figures on the international scene, among them Cerith Wyn Evans, Isa Genzken, Tomás Saraceno, Mark Leckey, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Elaine Sturtevant and Man Ray. Across sculpture, installation and moving image, the works probe perception, parallel dimensions and the limits of what can be known, unsettling the familiar coordinates of the real. Following its debut at SMAC Venice, the exhibition arrives at OGR Torino in a new site-specific configuration conceived for Binario 1.
At the heart of the wider programme is an Infinity Mirrored Room by Yayoi Kusama, The Eternally Infinite Light of the Universe Illuminating the Quest for Truth (2020). Kusama, who died in August 2026 at the age of 97, was one of the most influential artists of her time. Through light, reflection and endless repetition, the installation invites visitors to consider infinity, the perception of space, and the dissolution of the boundary between the self and the universe. After her passing, its presentation carries an added resonance.
The programme also includes a film season presented with the Museo Nazionale del Cinema, drawing on the cinematic references that shaped the curatorial vision, chief among them the black monolith of Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), itself a key element of the exhibition. The curators develop these ideas further in The Quantum Effect, a monolith-shaped book published by Verlag Walther und Franz König, and in a series of public conversations on the impact of quantum theory on contemporary art and culture.
