Loitered Lens: The Hillbilly Moon Explosion

Many female-fronted acts try and bring a chanteuse element to the quiff and bass combo, but The Hillbilly Moon Explosion do it with more sensual menace than anyone else.

Emanuela Hutter is a probably not as scary as she appears onstage, but all performance is in some sense cabaret and Hutter’s glassy nonchalance is all the more enchanting for its lack of humanity. Her keening vocals roll out with cool distance over the solid train beats the band stomps.
