Trebuchet magazine in discussion with Jade Lauren
Miles, Coltrane and Bird are long dead, but Jazz sure isn’t. Get up to speed on the exciting new scene with ‘The Bluffers guide to Contemporary Jazz’ from promoter and scene sleuth Jade Lauren.
Jade Lauren has held various positions in some of the world’s best Jazz clubs and worked as a tour manager, assistant media producer, reporter and artist liaison for some of the biggest names in Jazz music today. She has emerged from the dimly lit crypts of revolutionary noise to come up for some polluted air and educate others to the joys and horrors she has witnessed and heard.
She has watched the changing of the old vanguards of standards evolve into the new myriad of styles from nu-jazz to neo-soul, venturing on into the even more bizarre and ill-defined regions of where Jazz can reach to. In the talk, she will explore what separates the traditionalists and the ideologues, the role of producers and the merging of genre’s across soundscapes and landscapes alike and what to listen out for in the shape of jazz to come.
Jade has worked with the likes of Christian McBride, Terence Blanchard, Al Jarreau, Christian Scott, Robert Glasper, Marlena Shaw, Nigel Kennedy, Allen Toussaint, Roy Hargrove, Curtis Stigers, Ian Shaw, John Mayall, Kenny Garrett, Ala.Ni, The Mingus Big Band, Booker T Jones, Liane Carroll, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, Pee Wee Ellis and Many, many more.
