Trebuchet Magazine ::
Trebuchet - info
Welcome to the Trebuchet Magazine Website.
Trebuchet presents a critical focus on contemporary politics and art for a global readership. A glossy that contains more content than advertising seems like an unique concept in this day and age. But, if you’ve ever trawled through the standard fare at your newsagent and wondered if there was actually something to ‘read’ then you’ll agree there was a gaping hole in the market.
Right now, there are many important conflicts in global society; from groundswell resistance to political reform to the discovery of new frontiers in art. Each of these hotly contested sites has an impact and rather than footnoting every event Trebuchet examines and appraises the best, the most daring, and the most controversial. Trebuchet draws the subject from the hype and into discussion.
Art:
Trebuchet focuses on forward looking artists that have something powerful to say. In profiles, features and interviews we want to investigate the most innovative of contemporary art. Asking, how has the artist used their medium to affect the viewer? Who are their ideal viewers? Why should anyone be convinced? And if the question of ‘what is Art?’ is broadly irrelevant, what then is art to a particular artist? For example, if art is the expression of a personality then what is the personality?
Culture:
The popular leaders in today’s society are musicians, writers, directors and people on the cutting edge of style and scene. These people, whether knowingly or not, intersect art and politics, directing people through signs and signals to various political stances, modes and manners of behaviour.
Politics:
Intensely critical of political hype from any corner we investigate what any stance can actually do for us, if any thing. The questions that we want answered are; what are the realistic expectations we can hold for current political systems? Are there viable options outside of voting for whomever you view as the lesser of two evils? Is the typical assumption that being politically engaged is ‘too hard’ actually true? How can we increase political accountability for individuals, parties and movements?
Trebuchet:
Each magazine has its own personality, voice and style. Trebuchet is an intelligent magazine that couples critical insight with excitement and vigour. It is important to note that we view quality writing as more than academic summation of facts or a recitation of buzz words aimed at tickling the media heightened senses of passive readers. Essentially the only thing that any Trebuchet editor asks their writers is ’So What?’ Aren’t we covering important topics? Yes, but unless the article actively engages the reader it’s useless. A trebuchet is a tool of contact, recognition and active engagement, used equally to attack and defend; the magazine should be the same.
